Lara Peres Rocha is an interdisciplinary performer and maker from Lisbon, Portugal. SHe attended vocational school Escola Artística António Arroio from age 15 and graduated with a Diploma in Photography - Audiovisuals. Subsequently she went on to study dance and graduated from Northern School of Contemporary Dance with a Contemporary Dance BA (Hons) in 2023. During her training she had the chance to develop her own practice based on research and improvisation, and to work with numerous artists such as Alethia Antonia, Saju Hari and Ben Wright. She has also worked professionally with choreographers Gonçalo Lobato and John-William Watson, as well as developed her own works.

Her Personal practice is informed by the need to create meaning and express individual narratives from an autofictional perspective, often drawing from existential themes. Her universe is one where different layers of meaning and communication interweave. She approaches the work with curiosity, sensitivity, and a leading interest for people and what moves them. Making and performing are part of her inherent need to document subjective EXPERIENCE.

In season 2023/24 Lara became an apprentice dancer with Scottish Dance Theatre as part of NSCD’s Professional Placement Scheme, with whom she had the chance to perform and create her debut work ‘Full Half Empty’, in collaboration with dancer Ben McEwen.

Currently Lara is developing her new solo work ‘As if to say’, and freelancing across europe.
